She's one in a million and has stood by me in a difficult year. Help me give her the gift of music!
My wife and I have been married 12 years, and she's the light of my life. I thought honoring her with a song written just for her would be a truly unique, touching, memorable birthday gift. I'm between jobs right now and don't have a lot of money to offer for a song, but I'm hopeful that a talented romantic out there will see this and step up.
I'd love to present it to her for her birthday on Sept. 21, 2010. It's just for us, though if we love it, I might share it on my Facebook page for our close friends and family to hear. It will not be used commercially in any way.
Her name is Dawn. Here are a few more things about our life that might help with lyrics and such:
We were married in Oct. 1998, so we're coming up on 12 years. Her name is Dawn, and we met in high school, though we were only friends. We were in band together, and I was always interested in dating her but I was the guy "like a brother" to her. We went to the same college but didn't start officially dating until after graduation. So we knew each other for about 8 years before we started to actually "date." Not sure what changed her mind about me, but she says she found herself getting jealous when I was with other girls, and she observed how well I treated them.
We only dated six weeks before I asked her to marry me.
The first kiss was AWKWARD -- kissing one of your best friends of 8 years? Was this going to ruin a good thing we had? Were we willing to lose a friend if this relationship didn't work out?
There was no looking back. Now we have two kids, Lincoln is our older son, and Robin is our daughter.
We live in Indianapolis right now, and we're not sure where we're moving, as the job situation is up in the air. It's safe to say it will be out of state.
Her pet name for me is "Bobby." I don't really have a pet name for her... "Dawn" or "honey" would be fine.
We have the typical suburban life. I have an 8-5 corporate job, and she stays home with the kids. She's a "minivan mom," shuttling the kids to swim lessons, preschool, etc. She's a very active volunteer at church.
Even after 12 years, we have regular date nights on the second Friday of each month. "Date night in a minivan" we laugh.
Thanks!
Think "Your song" by Elton John.
My wife will be 35 years old, but should have been born a generation earlier. To give you a sense of her musical preferences, she loves older sounds such as Karen Carpenter, the BeeGees, Chicago, Air Supply, etc. But she also loves Madonna, Kelly Clarkson, Michael Jackson, etc. of today. She was a HUGE NKOTB fan as a teen. Today, she's listening to Christian Contemporary music (Jesus is strong in her heart), GLEE soundtracks, etc. She even loves Broadway showtunes from Wicked, Hairspray, Mamma Mia, etc. SHE DOES NOT LIKE COUNTRY though our wedding song was "Valentine" by Martina McBride (it didn't have too twangy of a sound, though).
I'm looking for a song with lyrics that pick up on our life, her beauty and strength, her support as a spouse, her amazing heart and love for the Lord, and our kids Lincoln and Robin. She loves upbeat music... a love song would be great, but a good up tempo would be nice. She LOVES when a song has a dramatic key change. :o)
I'm leaving my job and searching for a new one -- she stays home with the kids and has been very supportive as I make this major move. It will require us to leave our home of 13 years and move to a new city. Our house is for sale and she's working extra hard to keep it clean and ready for showings, etc. (Anyone who has sold a house realizes this is hard, especially with a six and four year old running around!) I'm SO THANKFUL for our strong marriage, her willingness to support me while we turn life upside down.
